We dispel myths. Dental implantation is evil

If someone was bitten by a dog, it does not mean that all dogs are bad and they should be exterminated. If someone told you that his friend’s wife had problems after the implantation – it is first worth double-checking (too many “spoiled phones” in this chain), and to clarify some information (which implant was placed, which clinic, doctor, whether the CT scan was done before the implantation, took tests or not).

There are contraindications for implantation, but there are very few (the main ones: heart problems, diabetes mellitus). In all other cases, implantation is possible. In normal clinics, no one will perform serious surgical interventions without a thorough study of the patient’s current health. Moreover, implantation is the best and most perfect way to restore the function and aesthetics of a lost tooth today. Only this surgery must be performed correctly.

We dispel myths. Dental implantation is evil

There are several options to restore the missing teeth:

1. You can restore teeth with removable dentures. But in most cases, it will be just discarded money (ask those who made these dentures – who really wears them?). Many patients ask the question: What happens if the implants do not take root? It is obvious what will happen. We will try to put them again for free (you have already paid for the surgery). What if they don’t take root again? At your choice: either we will try to put them back, or we will return the money and make you a bridge. Notice that nobody is going to take money from you 2 times in this sequence (first we try to put the implants, and if we fail – we can go back to putting the bridge). But if you make a bridge, then:

  • You may have to sharpen your teeth – this situation can no longer be turned towards the implantation without additional costs.
  • If you do not want to wear a prosthesis and still want to put implants, no one will pay you back for the prosthesis.

This is the logic, given the fact that according to statistics, 2-3 out of 100 implants do not take root – clearly speaks in favor of choosing implantation as a method of restoration of teeth.

2. You can make a bridge with fixation on adjacent teeth. This is an outdated method with a lot of negative consequences. Healthy teeth need to be ground (i.e. turned into pyramids on which the bridge will be held). Their former shape can never be restored. The load on these teeth will be greatly increased (some “dentists” make attachments for 2-3 teeth with “spans” of 2-3, or even 4 units). In other words, each bridge will carry a double load on the supporting teeth. As in any situation with an increased load (on the device, on the thing) – the service life will be reduced. Nature has provided a certain load on a particular place, and nature is not fooled. What will happen next? After a short time, the supporting teeth will not withstand the load, and the root of one of them will crack. The tooth will have to be removed.

As a result, the patient will remain (compared to the original situation) – with another lost tooth and 1-2 teeth that have been shaped under the crowns. And what do you advise him to do in this situation? And if we take into account that implantation is not much more expensive than making a bridge, then only fears of implantation will remain (finances are no longer an obstacle). So, there are often situations where it is harder and longer to remove a tooth than to place an implant. Implantation is not at the level of the 1990s, when it first came to Russia. Implantation has become an operation, which is often easier to remove a tooth!

Often, patients start the situation themselves, and just an implantation can no longer be done. If the patient has no tooth for a long time – the bone starts to dwindle in this place, the neighboring teeth bend towards the missing tooth. This happens because the bone (jaw) in this place is not loaded. If the patient goes straight to the dentist after losing a tooth, he will only need an implantation. And this will be the best solution. But if he decides to walk for a while without a tooth (like, now there is no time and money), then in 2-3 years he will have to look for money and time 2-3 times more. Without the services of orthodontist (it is necessary to correct the inclined teeth) and additional bone grafting (if there is no bone – where to put the implant?) can not do any more … And the upper tooth without an antagonist (the tooth with which it should chew, but it is not) will come out of the bone – and it too orthodontically should be put in place.
